Data Mining and Predictive Analysis:
Intelligence Gathering and Crime Analysis

Colleen McCue

The text includes discussion of the ethical limitations and issues associated with the use of data mining in the applied setting, including the text box entitled, "Is data mining evil?" in the attached chapter. The ethical issues associated with data access, fusion and mining have been the source of considerable, ongoing controversy.

Colleen McCue received a Ph.D. in experimental psychology in 1989. The program of study included significant instruction in advanced and multivariate statistical analysis. Currently, she is the Program Manager of the Richmond, Virginia Police Department. She maintains an active research program and began exploring the use of computer modeling in the analysis of violent crime approximately six years ago.
